RJ Dunlap Marine Conservation Program at University of Miami

Hammerschlag is the Founder and Director of the R.J. Dunlap Marine Conservation Program (RJD). The mission of RJD is to foster STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) literacy and advance marine conservation by conducting cutting edge scientific research and involving graduate, undergraduate and high school students through hands-on field and virtual learning experiences. These activities will expose students and teachers from across the globe to the importance of the ocean and terrestrial environments in their daily lives.  They will be made aware of the threats facing our oceans and coasts and to the solutions for conservation.  Education opportunities will be made especially for those in land-locked communities as well as those from underserved populations. Additionally, RJD will provide strategies to empower the public to play their individual role in marine and coastal conservation.
